I have an older 21/108 that I am still running at 100 cd/m2 without a
problem. I run the Red gun at 100% and drop the green and blue accordingly
to achieve my D50 target. Right now my contrast setting is way less than
100% giving me still plenty of headroom to increase the luminance if I want.
I have this monitor on all day without any energy saver stuff kicking in.
As Bruce (Fraser) has stated before getting a monitor to D50 sometimes
reduces the luminance levels to unacceptable levels (dingy yellows). D65
does have a cooler appearance and higher luminance level. Calibrating to D65
can sometimes allow older monitors to still achieve acceptable luminance
levels. Ideal monitor luminance levels for print comparison are around
100cd/m2 (IMHO) with 85cd/m2 being the minimum.
