David (or whoever else wants to chime in) --
I too will be very interested in an answer to Bernard's question.
I assume that by simply moving the new profiles into the Colorsync Profiles
folder, they will become available to PressReady (Adobe Print Color), and
other apps.
BUT - PS 6 installs them elsewhere, nested inside the Application Support
folder. (Chris Cox explained this is done to facilitate PS being able to
group profiles, so the UI can offer various "sets" in the preference
dialogs)
PS 6 does put an alias to them inside the Colorsync Profiles folder, but I
find that when you click on the Add button, Adobe Print Color still can't
"see" them. I know the alias trick should work, but sometimes it just
doesn't - I remember similar issues with some Epson printer drivers when
ColorSync 2.5 moved the profiles' folder location.
I guess I really don't like this "Application Support" idea - seems like
apps are sticking system resources (fonts, ICC profiles, what have you...)
in there to reserve them for proprietary use. Also it gets confusing -
ColorSync control panel lists Adobe RGB(1998) twice now: one copy from the
CS Profiles folder, a second from inside the Application Support. Hey, if
I'd wanted a Windoze machine, I'da bought one...
Oops, a bit off track there. Sorry.
Anyway, is there a way to get APC/PressReady to see for example, the new US
Sheetfed Coated v2, without either dismantling PS 6's groupings or having a
copy in both folders?
Thanks,
John
