Hi James,

The nominal target densities for SWOP printing are:

Cyan = 1.3 D
Magenta = 1.4 D
Yellow = 1.0 D
Black = 1.6 D

Printing must be done on Text Web paper
Densitometer must use Status T filters and be non-polarized
Measurements are made after ink is dry. Wet densities are higher.
Measurements are absolute and not made with reference to paper.
Readings are taken with a flat black paper backup.

SWOP is slowly moving away from characterization of the printing process
using density and dot gain. The new SWOP publications mention TR001
which gives full colormeteric characterization of the printing process.
TR001 gives a Lab value for all 928 patches on the IT8.7/3 test file.

If you want you can get the following documents that will tell you all
about it.

SWOP 2000 will be published soon.

CGATS.6-1995 Graphic technology -- Specifications for graphic arts
printing -- Type 1 (Report on a stardard SWOP printing run)

CGATS TR001-1995 Graphic technology -- Color characterization data for
Type 1 printing (this is published as paper report or you can get the
data on disk)

All of these can be ordered from NPES at www.npes.org
