I've been running this combo for over a year now and have given up on it as a contract proofer. The engine is fine, but the Fiery RIP as I now understand it is an RGB device and will never get to the same look as our MatchPrint III proofs. So we now use it as a nice comping device and keeping MatchPrint as our contract proof. It does do a nice job with Pantone colors though.

That being said we intend to keep the Epson 5000 engine but are now exploring other options such as the BestColor RIP under NT, and also today we had a technical rep come in from Aurelon and demonstrate their new product. Which looks pretty cool.

I'm usually a lurker on this list, but If anyone else on this list has seen this new Aurelon RIP,

Whaddaya think?

TIA

S.

I have a client that is interested in purchasing an Epson 5000 with the Fiery RIP. How profilable (is this a word?) is this combination? Epson advertises it as having color management--is this going to get in the way of creating decent profiles, or is it already set up for an ICC workflow? Can it be a stable contract proofer with the implementation of a good profile?

Thanks.
