That could be because x148 is from August 2, and the final version was released in mid October.
You're MANY builds and bugs behind the release version.

Subject: Pshop 6 softproofs

Just wrote a short review of Pshop6 for a local mag, and came away
wondering at the massive number of modal dialogs and checkboxes and
whatnots.

One thing I couldn't figure out was why beta 148 displays the following
behaviour:

a. Set the RGB to CIELab to production CMYK transform in Color Settings
(Apple CMM, Perceptual).

b. Set the production CMYK to CIELab (to monitor RGB?) transform in View ->
Proof Setup to Paper White and then the intent popup doesn't gray out or
auto reset to Absolute Colorimetric, but I think was default set to
Perceptual.

Very strange.
