i need some advice. if you've got a few minutes to respond, i'd really
appreciate hearing from anyone with ANY suggestions on how to improve the
accuracy of proofs on a budget.
It would help to know how your printers differ from the press.
One thing I have found - after looking at device gamuts in 3D - is
that most of the Epson ink jets do not produce the shadow colors that
a press or proofing system will. This means that you will see very
grey or otherwise thrashed shadow colors on the proof.
I am also not clear on how you are performing the color conversions.
The conversion from RGB to Press CMYK should be perceptual or rel col
but the conversions from press CMYK to printer RGB should always be
Absolute colorimetric. If your ink jet paper is close in color to the
press paper I guess you could also get away with rel col.
Basically there are lots of reasons why it won't match. More
information may help us understand.
