i'm having a problem with proofing my work before press. i usually
prepare my files for digital offset printing using photoshop. i usually
work in RGB mode, and then do a profile to profile conversion going from
my working RGB colorspace to a CMYK icc profile i created in photoshop
for my press. (the profile was created by entering the appropriate
parameters in cmyk set-up under the "built-in" dialog, switching to
tables, and then saving the profile.)
what i am wanting to do is to be able to simulate the press' output and
proof the image on my Epson 740 inkjet. my approach is to take the rgb
image and use the colorsync filter in photoshop, selecting as follows:
source = my working colorspace
output = the icc profile for the press (the same one i created using the
cmyk setup)
proofer = colorsync profile for my inkjet, created using monaco ezcolor.
rendering intent = perceptual or relative colorimetric
after applying the filter, i print into the rgb colorspace.
the problem is that the proofs i'm generating are quite different from
what i get back from the press. i am pretty sure that the problem is not
due to the cmyk to rgb conversion for printing because i have converted
rgb images to cmyk and then back to rgb and printed them for comparison
-- the differences were extremely small compared to what i am seeing in
this case.
i need some advice. if you've got a few minutes to respond, i'd really
appreciate hearing from anyone with ANY suggestions on how to improve the
accuracy of proofs on a budget.
thanks,
jonathan
