Doesn't cmyk to cmyk color management work on rips like Postershop?

I assume this post is some kind of follow-up on the "bad roland demo"
thread which I unfortunately didn't read. But having used Postershop for
nearly three years I can tell you that it is excellent in CMYK-to-CMYK
profiling (which is my everyday workflow).
Sure it depends *which* CMYK you're offering to the software and what
you're telling the software how to interpret it.
I've been creating a custom CMYK profile for my "reference process" which
is Dupont Cromalin and linearizing and profiling the various
printer/ink/media combinations (Encad PRO60e, PRO600e; dye-based and
pigment inks; PE-coated paper, vinyls, fabric and so on) and am getting
very good rendering results.
A friend of mine is working with an HP 3000 and an old Novajet 50 which I
recently profiled so the respective outputs are quite similar, too.
I am convinced it's just a question of correct set-up (and I have to
admit especially in the LFP area -- at least over here in Germany -- most
dealers aren't too familiar with color-critical workflows and how to
overcome those difficulties/problems).
So you cannot decide whether a Roland/Encad/HP/Mimaki/Colorspan/whatever
is a "good" machine. They all have their strong and waek points and it
also depends on the correct settings in your RIP software whether your
customers are willing to spend their money on your prints.
Hope this helps,
