Okay, he's the story why Kodak doesn't like to talk about ICC and the Approval
together. The reason is publication work, and measurable dot. The whole publication
industry is fixated on measurable dot and Approval grew up in the publication
industry. The approval is a great machine, and the more I see density variability in
the pigment based systems the more I want my Approval system to be installed. The
Kodak installation reps are instructed to get the machine as close as possible with
dot gain and density curves first. Most of the reps have a limited understanding oF
ICC and what it can do. Your Approval does have the ability to process profiles.
What I'm planning on doing when I get mine is telling the installation rep to set it
up to a Gracol curve and go away. As long as the Approval can maintain a stable
output, I'll apply my profile and be on my merry way. Hallmark in Georgia uses ICC
profile exclusively on their XP4. ICC profiles and the Approval are a great match,
so ignore your Kodak rep and build your profile and you'll be a lot happier. After
all, if I can make ICC profiles work on a Polaproof, I should be able to make them
work on an Approval, it's the same rip!
