If I am reading this correctly, then the answer to your problem is in the question.

If you are using the Epson driver, you need to create RGB profiles. If you have created CMYK profiles, they will be usable with the Epson (outside of the drivers) but will not give as good results - in most cases - and will not be recognized by the Epson drivers. Build 'em in RGB and your problem will go away.
