Only if the application generating the QuickDraw print stream sends a
source profile in the print stream itself. Most applications don't do
this. Photoshop 5 and 6, Illustrator 9 and InDesign have this as an
option. I'm not sure about other Adobe products.

Speed may be one reason. The other is that a user (especially a
non-advanced one) could select a profile that would cause problems with
the device, like laying down way too much ink, or give really awful
results. Another factor is that we'd need six color profiles for most of
the currently shipping inkjet printers and we don't have exactly
affordable consumer level 6-color profiling software.
Probably the final reason is that there are about 50 people on the planet
who need such a feature and about 40 of them subscribe to this list.
