I keep seeing posts where the displayed and/or printed images do not seem to
be correct and it is not certain what a particular application, utility or
RIP is doing to the color. My background is in optical testing (not color
correction) so I thought that it would be a _good thing_ to have a variety
of test images, profiles, and documents that would test various aspects of
color correction. These would be designed to stress applications so that
only the correct color transformations will produce an image that is even
close to being reasonable.
I am thinking of simple test images that will display / print completely
wrong unless the proper profile and intent are applied. The image could be
low resolution scans of the Q60 slide that includes a human face. The image
would be converted to RGB or CMYK using a very peculiar transformation such
that the image would be negative or the face bright green unless the proper
transformation was applied. Profiles would be generated so that only one of
its tables would regenerate a reasonable picture. InDesign, Quark, and
Acrobat documents would be created containing combinations of these images
to see how well they handle the required color correction.
Does any of this make sense?
Does anybody know of anything like this that is freely available?
What combinations of images/profiles would be used to make a test suite?
