Don't know about the 9500 specifically (and Andrew's right about the
pigmented inks - they're weird) but I've done a lot of messing around with
3000-5000s till I found a separation setup in ProfileMaker that I liked.
First off, find the correct total ink (the limit should be set lower than
what you may think; around 160%-220% is not uncommon).
Next run a series of tests varying the black start point and the UCR/GCR
amount.
I'd do the following:
Run a series of black start points starting at 25% up to 75% (the limit in
PM) in 10% increments.
In combination with that, try all the UCR to max GCR settings. That should
add up to about 30 different combinations. Print an RGB gray ramp using
these different combos and see what looks best (smoothest). You might want
to include a couple of flesh tones with the gray ramp to watch for black
creeping into the flesh. Somewhere in all those combinations you should find
something that looks the "best.
Regards,
Terry
