BestColor Rip? or it did What!

The more I know about this rip the more I don't understand it. Here's what's
happening now. I'm setting up another print que. I select the same print parameter
that I have for another queue but I change the name by adding a 2 to the end of the
queue parameter name. So now I have the same baseline, printer linearizations, and
profiles in the 2 different parameter definitions. I print with the original
parameter and everything prints okay. I then print using what should be a copy of
the original parameter and the print comes out at about half the density it should
be. What's going on??? This is one strange rip.
