Maybe I should explain one thing also:
It was never the intention of Best Designer Edition, to create
custom-profiles for it.
We designed the product for users, who want to get a proof as good
as possible whithout messing around with Profilegeneration, cali-
bration and so on (or how do our guys in the CMM-department say:
a Out-of-the-box-Rip).
I understand the desire to keep it simple. I also agree that simple
(with the ability to get into more detail if desired) should be a
design axiom for all products.
I do feel that the BESTColor DE RIP should have better provisions for
building custom paper profiles. If the customer is savvy enough to
find a simulation profile, there is a good chance they are savvy
enough to get a custom paper profile, or have one made for them. I
think there is a large market for a RIP on the Mac that will do a
good proof. Large... Did I say big?
If you want to make your own baselinearizations and need more in-
fluence in color management, the right solution from Best is our
nt-server based product, which cann also be accessed by AppleTalk!
For some environments, this is a perfectly logical way to go. For
others, it is simply not wanted. As we are in the business of giving
customers what they want... or perhaps at least what they need, we
need something that will do this job. Please, update the RIP to make
this path smoother.

Steve Upton
