You know, this sounds an awful lot like the CMM/scum dot issue that's been
going on in PS6 for a while now when using CMMs other than Adobe's. Could
this be related to the fact that the BESTColor RIP uses the Heidelberg CMM?

FWIW, I see scum dots in Compass Pro XT using Heidelberg CMM. Apple CMM does
not appear to have this problem, neither does Adobe CMM, but the latter is
unavailable to non-Adobe apps of course. I chose the CMM through the
colorsync control panel. I also got the same result from the ICC Autoflow
software, which is not surprising because it is probably built from the same
code base as CP XT.
