I hope the budgeted $ amount doesn't include the several weeks worth of work
that are ahead of you! That $20K will barely get you the required equipment.
If you're new to this, the services of a decent consultant will greatly ease
the pain of what you are about to undertake.

I suppose the Fiery is a decent general purpose RIP but it can be a bit
difficult to color manage/profile. You really ought to take a look at either
the BESTColor Medium RIP or the Praxisoft Mach 1 RIP. Initially they will
have capabilities that are beyond what you need but if you're like most,
you'll soon outgrow the capabilities of the Fiery and wish you had one or
the other of the RIPs I mentioned.

No complaints here except for hauling around the rather pricey Spectrolino
to do simple monitor calibration and profiling. My first choice would be an
Optical/Spyder combo but since you have the Cinema Displays, the Gretag
Eye-One Monitor ($600) would be a better choice. Better yet, get the Eye-One
Pro ($1.5K) and you'll have a backup spectro that can be used with your
ProfileMaker software. For a lot of down-and-dirty measuring/profiling where
speed is a concern, I find myself using my Eye-One over my 'Lino/Scan more
often that not.

Just my $.02...

Terry
