I'm new to this list so please be patient with my inadequate knowledge of
the subject. I'm a fledging designer trying to print portfolio projects on
an Epson Stylus 1200.
My problem is finding a cheap/not-too-involved way to get better color from
Quark out of the 1200, using Epson Stylus RIP SW. Things come out fine on
the non-RIP software. But I'm printing text and image-laden book projects so
I need the multi-page layout convenience of Quark.
I'm using Weber-Valentine's matte paper, but the standard Epson paper
settings produce quirky to lousy results. As a job hunter, I can't afford an
expensive calibration/profiling setup, so I seem to be wasting time getting
nowhere in this quest.
Would Monaco EZ Color or Wiziwyg or Adobe PressReady provide some
improvement? Is there a better, inexpensive RIP program out there? Are there
tutorials/books, etc. that could help me get started?
Please, I'm lost. Any tips or pointers in the right direction would be
greatly appreciated.
