Hell, an Imacon Flextight II (or newer III) can do that with one hand tied
behind it's little back. The new scanner, the III, has optical rez up to
6000 ppi and a 35mm (assuming no cropping) is 1.5 inches. No tape, gel, mess
or fuss. It's also highly ICC savvy.

If you have really big bucks to spend (the Flextight is a mere $15K), the
Tango is a real nice drum. BTW, the Imacon IS a drum scanner, just a CCD
drum. Much better for scanning negs.
