I am kind of new to the whole Color Management work flow. We just
implemented Profile Maker 3.1 by Gretag Macbeth. We built Monitor profiles,
Scanner Profiles, and Profiled our Iris to match our Matchprint.
We basically set Matchprint as our standard, or our Destination profile. For
the most part everything looks good, however when we get RGB files in from
other parties and we have to convert them to CMYK, we find that using our
Matchprint or destination profile, we dont get as good results as when using
Photoshops Built in conversion table of Swop Coated.
Ok, so you your workaround is to convert using Photoshops Built-in
SWOP table... but then what? Are you then converting from that CMYK
space to your Matchprint space? If not, you're leaving the file in
the wrong CMYK space. If you are, it's unusual that the double
conversion would give you better results.
I'm not sure how you have you have your workflow, but I'd recommend
using the Matchprint profile as your Photoshop CMYK working space.
When going to the Iris, the profile of the Iris is the destination
profile and the Matchprint profile is the source profile.
