Well, I've played around with the Eye 1 from GretagMacbeth and have profiled
a couple of the Apple Cinema Display's (15" and 22") with very good results,
when compared to a LaCie 22" blue, calibrated both with ColorVIsion
Optical/DTP92 & Spyder, and Eye1.

I'd say that the flat panel have a slightly smaller gamut especially visible
in vivid blues, but when viewing a range of brightly coloured test images
containing neutrals, pastels and vivid colours on the Cinema Displays and
the LaCie side by side, the difference is very small.
I'd stick my neck out and say that for most graphical use except for very
critical colour correction, the Apple Cinema Displays are god enough, when
calibrated with an Eye1.
