From my experience "heavy" GCR can cause problems with more or less
"typical" images (i.e. normal exposure, normal contrast, etc.) especially
when there is black type or graphics included in the page layout. In this
case, it would be difficult for a press operator to make significant
adjustments to the image in question without making other black elements
(i.e. type and graphics) look weak or just plain wrong. With light to medium
GCR there should be more latitude to adjust the image via CMY on press
without negative effect on the other elements. This point may not apply to
very neutral images which may benefit from heavy GCR in which case dot gain
may be a more significant factor.
