When you have finished your baseline, and before you set your Total Ink
limit, the quality of colors file will allow you to see how the printer is
outputting, using your baseline settings, which is where you decide the
Total Ink Limit, and the two gray balance curves allow you to see the
gradients BEFORE you build your profile.

When you use the canned profiles do you still get banding?
The canned profiles are a great starting place, as Ulf and the guys have
really put some work into getting great results, and your goal is to better
these, based on the fact that your inkjet (printer + ink + paper) will give
slightly different results than theirs.
