For exacting reproduction, it would be
necessary for Kodak, Fuji, Agfa and the other manufacturers to make targets
for each material. Most have standardized on one transparency and one print >medium.

Whence the Linocolor and Newcolor Base Density Analysis which allows an ICC profile to be used even though the materials differ. ICC workflows ensure color matching. They don't ensure good reproduction -:).
