Just as an aside in this (winding) thread, allow me to comment that most
if not of my PDF woes have disappeared like snow under the sun once I
discarded Distiller and started using DoubleCheck (www.enfocus.com). Its
"Profiler" (to define different recipes for the kinds of checks and
output you require) offers amazing control and flexibility.
The program will produce either PDF, PS or EPS from input in any one of
these three formats.
