I'm assuming you are asking at what stage the light magenta and light cyan
separation takes place. If that is the case then for pretty much all low cost
desktop inkjet printers the separation does not take place on the printer.

In the case of a postscript workflow it would most likely occur in the PS RIP or
driver, as it avoids the issues of a greater than four channel workflow
upstream.

In the case of non-postscript drivers it must occur in the printer driver. The
reason being that the OS places a limit on only RGB data being passed to it.
