In this case I converted the CMYK files to my RGB working space (Adobe
1998). They looked pretty good after the conversion. At this point I need
to adjust levels along with some changes in color saturation. I then
printed the files to a Roland HiFi Jet Pro. The client stated that I
"nailed" one of the pieces. The other two were off slightly in color
saturation.

doing
a conversion to LAB but I'd have to believe that Photoshop would need to
make the same assumptions about the source to get to LAB so you may be in

In essence, I guess that by converting to my RGB working space I was jumping
"into the boat." Fortunately the end result was satisfactory.

Hi mjt,
Adobe1998 is my preferred workspace and I output RGB tiffs to an FJ.
With the gamut range of the FJ500, and with an accurate
monitor/media/profile combination you can pretty much expect to
'nail' a lot of these blind conversions by gauging what you get
onscreen. Even then, I find I only nail some *blind CMYK/RGB
conversions*. I have more luck converting into Lab first and even
more luck flip flopping between PS4/3 (AppleRGB) default rgb/cmyk
workspaces as my source spaces in PS6 and then converting to my
preferred. We get a lot of batch work so once I find which one is up
the rest usually come running.
For legacy file info, not the final word on legacy but a good start:
