Well I'm supposed to stay off the phone for safety reasons so I guess
I'll post here.
We just had a 6.2-6.4 magnitude earthquake here in Seattle.
It was apparently centered about 20-30 miles south of Seattle and
some miles below the surface.
I was working away in my office and talking on the phone when the
place took a pretty strong jolt and then we rode through a 40-60
second (who looks at clocks at a time like this) ride that was mostly
smooth and wave-like. A little disorienting but if you stood with
your feet north-south, not a bad little surf.
Quite possibly the coolest thing I have experienced yet. Definitely
the strongest earthquake I've been in.
The news is covering a fair number of collapsed walls just south of
downtown where there are older warehouses and such. Some people
parked their cars in the wrong places this morning. Try as they might
they have not been able to find injured people so I think we all made
it through OK. I'm glad I bought earthquake insurance for the house,
that's for sure.
Now we sit around and wait for aftershocks.
Regards,
Steve Upton
