I own a Apple Studio 21 Display and was wondering if the internal
calibration it has is all I need or should I also do a Optical calibration
to.
I would not rely on internal calibration. I calibrate my LaCie
electron19blue's at least once every three days to account for rgb "gun
drift". I usually profile at least once a month. I use ColorBlind USB ProveIt!
with a USB ProveIt! Meter. There is a function within ProveIt! to calibrate to
the color temperature of a view booth "match view light". Since my GTI
viewbooth is around 5150 degrees Kelvin, the resulting calibration and profile
just a bit cooler than 5000, but it matches my view booth. I have found this
an extremely useful feature and softproofing is more accurate. I can also
verify my calibration every few days. All in all, monitor profile and
calibration software is a must. Usually most packages have more than just a
way to profile a monitor to a standard color temperature. For us, it has been
one of the best investments in the battle of accurate color.
