Hacked by whom or what? The driver/RIP? The CM/ICC profiler? The user?
I want to make sure I understand this and have all the information I need
to generate a good profile after moving from a CMYK inkjet to a CcMmYK
device.
Basically what David is saying is that you should ignore the fact
that the printer is splitting the C and M channels. The splitting is
considered to be done after your color separation and in most cases
is done to smooth the C and M channels. Just treat it like a CMYK
printer and all should be fine.
If you are profiling the printer as an RGB device than you really
don't have control over all the channels. The transforms that
separate the RGB into CcMmYK are typically stable and profilable.
