How does one profile an 8 color device?
By profiling it as an RGB device assuming you are sending it RGB (which is
what I'd do and have done for the Roland 8 color printer).

Hi multi-ink users,
Good question. We just got our HiFi-500 up and running. As of now
we've been profiling the CJ500 with Scanvec-Amiable's
PhotoPrintServer 2.0 w/cal package. It's pretty basic, allows you to
address ink limits on all channels, GCR etc., but still writes a
profile which identifies itself as cmyk, not multi-channel like the
PANTONE. Hexachrome. Roland device profile.
Note: Scanvec wrote the Roland ColorChoice software packaged with
FJ/CJ printers.
To get around the 8 question we're upgrading to ver.2.5, whose cal
package writes profiles for the FJ500. However, Andrew makes a good
point about profiling rgb. The preliminary rgb profiles I wrote under
PrintOpen 4.0 (mac) were good for softproofing in Photoshop, but the
reality was the Roland/Scanvec RIP software only recognized them as
rgb input files when output media profiles are where significant
steps are made with third party medias.
If I'm missing something here, feel free to point me towards home plate.
