I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "profile the Mac" (monitor perhaps?)
but I can tell you a bit how the BESTColor RIP works in regard to profiles.
BTW, you'd still need all your current Mac profiling tools.
The most common way to use it is to have some sort of "reference" profile,
IOW a press or printing condition you would like to simulate. You also give
it a source profile which is a profile of the proofing printer itself. These
profiles are both selected/installed in the BESTColor software. From the
Mac, you can simply print your job and it does the rest, the printer output
simulating the reference profile you gave it. There's really nothing you
have to do on the Mac side profile-wise to make this work. There's also the
option of having it honor embedded profiles that can override the "default"
reference profile you installed. I don't see where this would be a huge
benefit in a CMYK workflow (presuming you want to "proof" a given/fixed set
of PressCMYK conditions) but it is beneficial if you'd like to proof RGB
images and use the full gamut of the printer plus have it honor your
embedded working space profile.
Anyway, with good profiles it has performed very well at several
installations we've done (their canned printer profiles are OK but we've
gotten superior results with both custom reference and printer profiles).
Now, if I could just have 16-bit support, life would be grand......
