First of all and IMO most important thing one should consider when
proofing for newsprint is the proofing paper itself.
I'd been doing newsprint proofs on an Iris printer with "colorimetric
good results" but on standard (PE-coated) material which did not please
anyone.
For some two years then I've been using some paper (newsprint-like stock
for sheetfed offset printers) which comes close to newsprint which has
given good results.
BTW, I think Johan Leide at IFRA will be a good "resource" to start with.
