right, what I meant was if your drum scanner could only deliver CMYK image
data, or you didn't want to configure it for RGB, and you had a scanner
setup for printing condition X, you'd measure a target printed or proofed
under condition X to create a CMYK profile from which you could do Convert
to Profile to an RGB working space.
sure if you have only a skeleton black then you're not losing much by
stripping K out; it just seems counterproductive to do so. either way you
still end up with an image that is not ideal compared to scanning it as RGB
in the first place.

heh. my experience with salespeople is to let them blissfully sail along
under their pleasant delusions, nod and smile a lot, and everyone is lots
more happy in the long run. explaining anything technical to a sales or
marketing person (of course there are always exceptions) is like trying to
herd cats.
