It was for viewing on screen. No real intent other than convenience, simply
rushing to get an image emailed with as little putzing around as possible,
and not wanting to search for the file that was in a working space rather
than the one that was handy which had a printer profile embedded.
I didn't realize at the time that PhotoShop doesn't accurately display the
JPEG size, and didn't realize I was stumbling into an "issue" that required
further experimentation.

I probably should have explained in my original post that that's what I
finally did, after experimenting. Once I saw that when embedded with Adobe
RGB, the file was 3x smaller, and the files size pre-calculated in PhotoShop
was accurate, I converted the profile to Adobe RGB and sent that off.
So, my goal of convenience wasn't achieved, but I learned something.
Personally, I think that PhotoShop should either perform an accurate file
size calculation or indicate that none is possible, rather than presenting
an erroneous file size.
