I would stay away from doing it in the RIP.<<
any RIP?
Apogee has a nice feature for using a CMYK profile as a basis for separation
and I'd have to assume that Prinergy does too.
It's necessary to distinguish between :
a. RIPs with ICC frontends able to color manage PDF 1.4 and 1.4 that
support ICC profiles which PostScript doesn't, and
b. RIPs level 2017 and up without ICC frontends which color manage
incoming objects if and only iff those objects have a CSA (Color
Space Array) that brings the colors into the PostScript PCS (CIEXYZ),
and if not will image the pixels by the numbers as received.
Prinergy at the high end and BESTColor at the more modest end of
things are of type (a). Any PostScript Level 2 and 3 RIP are of type
(b).
'in-RIP color management' or PostScript Color Management is of type
(b) which does not support the ICC profile format.
