I don't think you're silly, I'm not being condescending if I suggest what
seems like obvious solutions. If they're obvious to you, that's great, but
they might not be obvious to everybody.

This has to be related to something Optical or another piece of software is
doing, I can't imagine any scenario using only the Apple software that would
result in a profile showing up in a profile list without being 1) in the
ColorSync profiles folder or 2) in a folder that has an alias in the
ColorSync Profiles folder. I don't have Optical, maybe other people on the
list who do can give more specific help.
