Henrik is essentially correct if one is doing anything where you want to
repurpose or reuse or even simplify your life between color spaces, because
device link profiles take us back to the device-to-device direct conversion
which the whole ICC profile scenario is supposed to get us away from.
However, there is one small use left for device link profiles and that is at
the final output stage where you want to emulate one device on another. For
example, a DLP that converts from output intended for a press to output
actually going to a digital printer as a proofing device can be very useful.
But I wouldn't use them anywhere upstream of this.
