Maybe a couple of dumb questions but I do need to understand this
properly...:
Gamut mapping and thus selection of a rendering intent is
(1) a non-issue when going from some device color space to PCS (as the
PCS can handle any color and is limited by no gamut whatsoever)
(2) is an issue when going from PCS to a device color space.
Right or wrong?
If right:
(3) How can a scanner profile have a perceptual (as opposed to relative
etc.) rendering intent? To what gamut does it map the (scanner) device
colors?
Also:
(4) When selecting a perceptual rendering intent for a scanned raw image,
using its scanner profile as well as lets say a working space profile,
doesn't this mean that the only relevant thing that is happening is that
the perceptual conversion table from PCS to (in this case) working color
space in the working space profile is used?
Or more generally:
(4a) selection of a rendering intent means the selection of the resp.
conversion table in the profile used for the PCS to device color space
profile.
Any hints appreciated.
