Hi there -
I'm looking for some input from experienced users of CM software and
hardware. Since upgrading to Mac OS 9 w/ColorSync 3, and also the
various graphic programs: Photoshop 6; Illustrator 9; and using page
layout programs Quark 4 and PageMaker 6.5, the programs and hardware we
used to use for calibrating and profiling is out of date. We were using
ColorSynergy to create, edit the profiles, with a ColorTron II to read
monitors and printer targets. Those are now obsolete. Same with Radius
ProSense, which we started to use for our monitors after we got a Radius
PressView monitor. Since upgrading to ColorSync 3, we can no longer save
profiles. Both companies that make these programs are gone and the
software will not be updated.
We're a full service marketing and graphic design company. We do handle
photo shoots and do some color correcting on photos for ads, brochures,
web, etc. We use Epson 3000s to print proofs for the client to approve.
All we really need to do is to be sure that when we need to do color
correction to a transparency, we know that our monitors are giving us an
accurate representation; and when printing the proof, that the proof
match as closely as possible - taking into consideration RGB vs. CMYK,
all those issues - to what appears on the monitor. We had that going for
a while, until our software fell out of date.
So now I'm looking for up-to-date software and probably hardware. I've
got it narrowed down to two packages that I feel are appropriate for our
use; we don't need the real high end programs; we have a pre-press
facility do all of our extremely critical scans and color correction. We
just need to be sure that what we see to work on matches our original
transparency or scan; and that we can make the inkjets produce less
saturated, less bright proofs. One package is by Color Vision. They have
a special going on now through the end of the month for the PRO suite,
which includes the Monitor Spyder w/OptiCal, Profiler PRO and Doctor
PRO. The other package is by Color Savvy, their WiziWYG Pro. I recall
reading some posts about Color Vision and the Spyder and OptiCal or
PhotoCal; most of the posts I recall were positive; I don't recall
seeing anything on WiziWYG Pro, but then I'm new to this list and may
have missed a posting or two. The prices are in the range we're looking
for and close enough to each other to make it a toss up. What I'm in
search of now is any information from people who have really used either
of these and how they've worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
