How does Eye-One Match compare with ProfileMaker?
The Eye-one Match is a very user friendly software. As far as monitor calibrations are
concerned the software and the eye-one work quickly to produce good monitor profiles.
1. reads contrast level just like Profilemaker.
2. reads brightness level just like Profilemaker, but the meter reading is a little
jumpier, can't get it to settle down in the center, Profile maker is a little
easier(using x-rite's monitor optimizer)
3. Setting RGB guns is the same as PM. Eye one displays a 3 inch reading band down the
center of the screen for all readings.
4. After the calibration is finished(1-3 above) the software goes right into the process
of reading and creating a monitor profile(with PM you have to calibrate separately and
then take data readings, then create the profile in profile maker). After reading and
creating a profile you can save directly to the proper folder, the software finds the
folder in mac or pc. Really nice option for PC's users, the profile folders are buried
pretty deep in pc's.
One con is that there is no display of the monitors cd/m2 to help verify or adjust the
monitor to what is usually recommended.......85cd/m2. Profilemaker has this option.
The interface was definitely built with ease of use(and priced $600) for beginners, such
as ad agencies, it will get you where you need to go. It also works on pc or macs, the
software key(donglefree) is built into the eye-one, so you can profile as many monitors
as you have at your location for the same price(correct me if I'm wrong).
The spot color reading shareware that is free, but needs the pro version($1500) of
the software to fully implement and is also easy to use.......it's the color-picker like
in profilemaker but with out the ability to adjust the process equivalents to get closer
delta E readings. I beleive you can down load the free software from the eye-one.com
site.
I have not used the full pachage for creating printer profiles, but from what I've
heard there is not much control over the black printer(correct me if I'm wrong).
All in All its a good product, but not as robust as Profile Maker.
