Sid Phillips adds:
I've been using PS6 under W2K on a dual-processor machine, using PressReady
as our CMYK RIP, printing on an Epson 1520 using only Epson inks and paper.
I use OptiCal and the X-Rite DTP-92 for creating monitor profiles.
The results have been pretty good, though I don't have any benchmarks to
compare the results to a Mac system. We have eliminated about 70% of our
reworks, so we're very pleased. It's possible we'd get better results
using Macs: I'm hoping to buy a G4 soon and make some real-world
evaluations.
But I do think that, as long as you're careful about building profiles and
being consistent in your use of Photoshop et al, that you'll get very good
results in your color workflow. Good luck!
