They don't have to be device link as in an ICC open workflow the absolute
rendering cross converts the colours one media profile of one device to the
other. Device link profiles are dead ends and can't come back to the
starting point.

This is often seen on the Fuji and to the eye is different than the
Matchprint yet to a spectro very different. This is why many people on this
list over the years suggest that you edit the proofer profile as it's almost
unavoidable if you want perfect colour co-ordination between two proofers.
The profiling applications have improved the quality of the colour
conversions to the point that I can't say that Monaco is still the best
choice.

When it comes down to hyper-critical cross proofing there's such much more
than just printing out a target and profiling. If you call J|rgen Seitz at
GMG in Germany at 49 7127-98790 or email him at email@hidden he'll
tell you how exactly they set up to do this for FujiProof and Iris machines.
That's all they do and dive into the intricities of cross proofing!
