This is a bit of a convoluted question, so bear with me...
We work with several printers in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China... and let's
just say that, in most cases, the quality is not quite what I am accustomed
to in the States. I didn't choose these vendors (as would be the case with
domestic vendors) and, for the most part, I have neither toured the
facilities nor conversed with the staff (due to distance, time zone and
linguistic barriers).
Never-the-less, our department is expected to produce reasonably attractive
packaging and product collateral with these vendors. On occasion, this
objective has eluded us.
So, my question is: how tight is the SWOP specification? Is there a standard
SWOP profile out there that basically assures me that any printer working
within SWOP specifications should be able to print a decent print from my
files? As there are dozens of SWOP profiles out there... are any
particularly noteworthy?
I'm not looking for technical perfection, as we're never going to get
that... what I need is the ability to send over a color target (from our
BestColor & Epson 5500) along with a set of files and know that it's
reasonable for the printer to 'get close.'
