My apologies for mistaken impressions.
The epson printer in question, is not a powerful device. It is the original
stylus photo, a letter size printer attached directly to my mac (no RIP)
and thus no PPD. Unless of course someone knows of a PPD for this device, I
have never found one. Alas, this is likely why I have so much fun outputing
proofs from quark to this printer (its not postscript capable).
I suppose that an answer to this would be to find a software RIP capable of
supporting this printer. Any RIP suggestions?
Thanks

I have been using the Adobe PressReady RIP with great results. (Too
bad Adobe is abandoning it.)
The only issues I know of are (1) it may or may not be available for
your Epson model (I don't recall if you mentioned it); and (2) you
have to hack in, via renaming, any of your custom profiles to replace
the stock PR profiles (which aren't too bad for stock profiles.) This
procedure is not too hard, once you identify the stock profiles from
their cryptic names, and has been explained at least a couple of
times in the past year on this list.
I don't know if the ColorGurus still feel this is a strong RIP,
considering recent offerings, but it seems to work for me, on Mac OS
9.1.
Hope this helps
George
