Yes,
thats what i was doing originally. I think because this is not a postscript
device, the quark print dialog defers control to the epson driver, and the
epson driver has some control but not the same control as in the quark
dialog. I think my final answer is a software RIP from epson so that quark
can properly control the output to this printer. Probably the best of both
worlds ie quark and epson.
thanks everyone for your help

But unfortuneately, the epson driver changes the settings in the quark
print dialog, and the halftoning dropdown is greyed out on the output tab.
Also print colors is set to defined by printer. I believe the epson driver
basically takes over everything. I am assuming that this is where you were
talking about changing halftoning from conventional to printer screen.
What other alternatives do i have, or what other settings might be taking
affect here?
By any chance have you tried a comparison with the Epson driver
controlling your print dialogs? I would think that would be how Printer
halftoning would be achieved by such a device.
Anyway, I'm gonna go home and rip the insides out of my loved one's little
Ep740 and see if that helps me think this one through. Chances are no,
because it's a different device, but what the heck....it's not mine!
