PressReady combines canned inkjet profiles for the Printer Manufacturer's own
inks and papers and canned or custom press profiles. To use PressReady
without the press emulation function you need to go to the Adobe Print Color
control panel and set the CMYK setting to "none, advanced users only" which
will also turn off the canned inkjet profiles. You can then select your own
custom inkjet profile elsewhere in the workflow (or the Adobe Canned one, if
you can figure out the code used for them) and get full gamut, color managed
prints with excellent screening and full CMYK ink controls. Of course, unless
you own CMYK printer profiling software which offers controls for these same
features, then having access to them in the RIP isn't going to do much for
you.
Not simple, I admit, but quite functional... and its press emulation mode
really is quite simple, and quite good.
