Apogee Taipan Rip

I am looking for some information on how the Appogee Taipan Rip and Appogee
PrintDrive works.

1. Does this system utilize ICC profiles and a CMS for color adjustment?

2. If so, is it mandatory or can this system be bypassed, so adjustments can
be made with gradation curves instead? (Accepting CMYK data "as is" and
applying a curve at the platesetter to compensate for differences in dot
gain.)
