I absolutely understand the reduced metamerism through more black generation
hypothesis that Roberto has summarized below, and that others on this list
also have advanced -- my problem is that the Epson 5500's alleged
improvement in controlling metamerism is basically invisible on my prints of
RGB files using the Epson driver (and canned or bespoke profiles) on my
Epson 5500, on Epson Photo Luster paper, when compared to prints on the
2000P. Are others on the list actually seeing significant improvement in
this regard on prints they make? Is it possible that the metamerism
improvement varies with the paper selected in the printer driver? I confess
to not having experimented with that, and built my profile
(MonacoProof/SpectroCam) using the PhotoLuster paper setting (since that is
the paper I prefer).
Sorry for the skepticism: I really want to believe (I own the beast, after
all), but so far the prints just don't look much different from a metamerism
point of view.
