apple's display adjustment utility

I'm wondering if someone on this list might be familiar with Apple's
Display Adjustment Utility (v. 4.1). I've got an iMac whose display was
losing intensity, so I obtained a copy of this program which allows
adjustment of hardware-based geometry and color parameters.

The color parameters include Drive and Cutoff for individual R G B guns,
Sub Contrast and Sub Brightness. It seems that Drive may correspond to
Gain, and Cutoff to Bias.

Using the Display Adjustment Utility, I can balance the guns using
Photocal with my Spyder.
I can achieve balance and target luminance using either the Cutoff or
Drive sliders, or a combination of the two.

I assume I should set the blackpoint using the Cutoff, and then balance
the guns with the Drive sliders for the selected whitepoint. Problem is,
I can't see how to set the Cutoff properly.

Any suggestions on what to do with the Sub Brightness and Sub Contrast
sliders would also be appreciated.

Thanks.
